Small business entrepreneurs in Meru town have celebrated the announcement of the results of the October 26 repeat presidential elections, saying it had unlocked the tension that had negatively impacted their activities.
The entrepreneurs joined the rest of Meru Town residents in celebrating President Kenyatta’s win in the repeat poll.
Bodaboda riders are among those who could not hide their joy applauding Uhuru’s victory which they attributed to the spirited campaigns across the country.
The president toured every corner of this country campaigning and preaching peace while his major opponent, Raila Odinga was busy calling for demonstrations in the city, said Richard Mutwiri, a bodaboda rider within Meru Town.
He told KNA that their business had been facing uncertainty owing to low investment activities as they awaited the announcement by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
Caroline Kinya, a hawker noted that business activities will shoot up since more residents shall be willing to purchase.
Many people were reluctant to spend because of the unending political turmoil. It has also made it difficult to restock due to the low purchasing power, lamented Kinya.
The business communities are optimistic that the President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta shall be sworn in next week since they little expect a petition to challenge his second victory at the ballot.
