Bondo police in major liquor and bhang discovery

Police in Bondo on Wednesday discovered a heavy consignment of illicit drugs from a secret hideout in Nyamonye market, Usigu Division in Bondo Sub-County.

The heightened security operation mounted by the joint Bondo Security team managed to unearth a syndicate, where illicit liquor smuggled from the neighboring Uganda are stored in the fortified hide out, before being transported to targeted markets.

Led by the Bondo Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Richard Ajwang, the police found a cache of assorted illegal substance, including 6,227 cartons of waragi sachet spirits, 140 cartons containing the shakers spirit, 58 cartons of relax spirit and cartons of the empire spirit.

Ajwang also disclosed that the consignment also contained bhang (24 stones, 40 brooms and 12 rolls). He said all the illegal substances have street value of over Sh. 300,000.

He said they received the intelligence following a tip-off from the members of the public, who provided the information to his office.

A known suspect, Francis Odhiambo Ochieng, who hails from Alego Usonga, escaped the police dragnet and is still at large.

The DCC said the suspect is a dangerous leader of a criminal network, operating in Bondo and Ndori market, but expressed confidence that police would arrest him.
