Bomet underwrites NHIF premiums for 1 000 households

About 10 000 residents of Bomet have a reason to smile after the County Government paid for their medical insurance.

The Bomet County was able to accomplish this through a marathon organised recently and raised money towards registering some of the most vulnerable and poverty hit households under the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF).

The Public Health and Medical Services County Executive Member, Dr. Joseph Sitonik urged the beneficiaries to pick their cards from Bomet NHIF offices, saying they were ready for use.

Dr. Sitonik said the County had remitted premiums from August to date, saying that the programme was continuous.

He urged those who had given out their names to visit Bomet County website and ascertain that they were listed therein.

At the same time, Sitonik urged all other residents to join NHIF medical scheme, saying there were more gains than loses where in case of any medical bills, resources would have already been pooled before hence negating the need for fundraisers.

When we all contribute to NHIF, it is the same as the fundraisers we normally conduct here only that we raise funds before the need arises, he said.

It is actually very prudent to have any sort of medical scheme so that you have the comfort of sorting out other pressing family needs,Sitonok said.

He said those who had been earlier registered would not be given new NHIF numbers, saying they would use the old cards.
