Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has withdrawn Nairobi police officers providing security in Kajiado North and Kajiado West subcounties.
The command has been handed over to Kajiado county, whose police commander is now in charge of Ngong, Ongata Rongai, Kiserian and Magadi.
The area has been under a Nairobi county police commander for the past three years following an upsurge in crime.
The Star yesterday established the command was handed back to Kajiado two weeks ago and all OCPDs will now report to the Kajiado county police boss.
A source at the police headquarters said the decision was reached after security was returned to “normalcy”.
But Olkeri MCA Onesmus Ngogoyo said crime may return.
“The people of Kajiado North have had sound sleep for three years and their security will be threatened after the withdrawal. Response from well-equipped police from Nairobi held thugs at bay. If they know this, they will come back to terrorise our people,” he said.
Kajiado North deputy county commissioner Mwangi Kahiro yesterday said all police officers in the subcounty are still serving in the region despite the changes.
