The body of an infant was Friday found dumped at the busy Machakos bus park.
The body of the boy, estimated to be three day old was discovered by a resident wrapped in a polythene paper and placed inside a carton. It had been placed next to the Kalawa stage at the bus park.
Our curiosity was raised by the carton that was placed unmanned near the Kalawa stage, and so we decided to check its contents only to be met by the shocking find. We then called the area chief who came and with the help of the police, managed to reclaim the body from some street boys who were trying to take it away, said an eye witness who declined being named.
It was taken to the Machakos Level 5 mortuary he added.
Confirming the incident, Machakos Township Chief Joshua Kimeu said after being alerted, he informed the police and they took the body to the mortuary.
He decried the rising cases of mothers dumping their newly born babies in the streets saying it was not only morally wrong, but also inhuman.
If a lady feels she is unable to take care of her baby, she should take it to the children’s department or orphanage instead of throwing it away Chief Kimeu counseled.
He revealed that investigations had commenced to unravel who was behind the dumping of the infant.
