The body of former Ganze MP Joseph Kingi was flown into the country on Thursday from India where he died three days ago of colon cancer.
The former MP 68, passed away in the city of Mumbai where he had gone two weeks ago to seek medical treatment.
Kingi was a one term Ganze MP from 2002 to 2007 when he beat former Kanu-era minister Katana Ngala to win the seat through Narc.
The plane carrying the remains of the former internal security assistant minister touched down at the Moi International Airport in Mombasa at about 11.40 am.
The body was taken to the Pandya Memorial Hospital mortuary in Mombasa for preservation ahead of his burial.
At the airport to receive the body alongside family members and friends were former Kaloleni MP and Tourism minister Morris Dzoro, former Msambweni MP Abdalla Ngozi and former Kilifi Deputy Governor Kenneth Kamto.
Dzoro said the ex-Ganze MP previously served as Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Kilifi branch chairman and also served as a director of the Coast Water Services Board.
His younger brother Daniel Chengo said the late MP is survived by his three wives and several children and grandchildren.
