Police in Migori county today morning impounded a haul of bhang stuck in three sacks of gunny bags valued at sh 0.5 million.
The illicit drug was intercepted in Ogwedhi area in Suna East sub county Migori County, according to Migori County Administrative Police Commander Mr. Peter Wasilwa.
Wasilwa said police on patrol at 3am stumbled on a vehicle which was ferrying the bhang along the Ogwedhi -Awendo highway and managed to seize the vehicle and the bhang although suspects who were in the vehicle managed to escape.
He said police have neither established the number of suspects nor arrested owner of the vehicle registration number KBW 0920 but expressed optimism that they will soon be able to bring the culprits to book.
The officer appealed to the public to help the police with information on what could lead to the arrests of the traffickers so that the police can do away with the narcotic menace in Migori and beyond.
“We are also planning to have a meeting with the police from the neighbouring Tanzania from where the intercepted bags of bhang were suspected to have originated to help avert the un-ending narcotic trafficking in the region..
He said bhang is legally grown in Tanzania though consumption is prohibited saying that Kenya is now the most affected because they are the main consumers of the bhang grown in Tanzania.
