Aspirant calls for free and fair party nominations

An ODM Parliamentary aspirant for the Malindi constituency by-election, Rashid Odhiambo has asked the party to conduct free and fair party primaries that are scheduled for this weekend.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday in Mombasa, the parliamentary aspirant asked the opposition party to put in place measures for free and fair nominations in which all contestants will be given a level playing field.

The aspiring politician said there is a need for transparency in the nominations for the Malindi parliamentary seat in the March 7, 2016 as the only way the party can retain the seat so as to restore public confidence in the party.

The By-election became necessary after the previous MP, Dan Kazungu of ODM was appointed Mining Cabinet Secretary by President Uhuru Kenyatta in his cabinet reshuffle.

“We want to warn Orange House not to influence the upcoming party nominations if they want to clinch the seat won by the party in the 2013 general polls”, he warned.

The aspirant said if he is elected, he will focus on land and education matters in the metropolitan constituency. Other contestants for the seat are, Justus Baya, Philip Charo, Fuad Wasi Kombe, Sanga Barawa and Katana Mwamure.
