Police in Homa Bay County have launched investigations into an incident where unidentified arsonists attempted to burn down a new laboratory at Mbita High School in Suba North constituency last night.
According to Homa Bay County Police commander Marius Tum, the fire was reported at about 7.00 pm by the school principal while students were
attending their evening preps.
Tum said that the principal saw smoke emanating from the laboratory building number three and when the Mbita security team rushed to scene, they found that an unknown arsonist attempted to set ablaze the building but the students who were nearby raised the alarm.
The county police boss added that the students and school administration used extinguishers and water to put off the fire which had burnt a few wooden items in the laboratory before it escalates.
He said that no casualties were reported during the incident and the cause of the fire has not yet been established.
The officer further said that his officers from Mbita Police station were left guarding the school compound after the attempted arson and investigations are on going to find out who could have been behind the incident.
