Political analysts in Vihiga County are optimistic that Governor elect, Dr Wilber Ottichillo would receive enough support despite his
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party having few Members of County Assembly (MCAs) in the second Vihiga County Assembly.
Speaking to Kenya News Agency (KNA) Luanda town on Wednesday, Mr Etale Mbalanya who is a seasoned political analyst in the region dispelled
fears the county assembly was likely to frustrate Ottichillo’s governance.
Most of the newly elected ward representatives have already shown interest in working closely with the governor elect for sole purpose
of zealously serving county citizens regardless of political party affiliations, observed Mbalanya.
With nine elected ward representatives, Amani National Congress (ANC) commands the highest of seats in the local parliament followed by
Progressive Party of Kenya (PPK) that has six members.
Ottichilo’s ODM has three MCAs, while Ford Kenya (FK) and Independent candidates have two leaders each. Federal Party of Kenya (FPK), Kadu
Asili and United Democratic Party (UDP) will be represented in the assembly by one MCA each.
The previous county assembly witnessed several ugly scenes in which MCAs affiliated to United Democratic Front (UDF) frequently frustrated
outgoing Governor Moses Akaranga’s agenda in the local assembly.
Residents who spoke to KNA urged the new governor to distribute equitably development resources in the county.
The residents want the new government to invest heavily in agriculture and trade sectors in order to spur economic growth and development.
We warn him against entrenching the culture of economic exclusivity as was the case with his predecessor, Moses Akaranga, advised one
