Al-Shabaab Raid Mandera Again

Two police reservists were last Sunday hospitalized with serious bullet wounds after engaging suspected Al Shabaab militants in a fierce gun battle during an ambush mandera county.

The reservists who were recuperating at the Mandera County Hospital also lost their rifles to the rag tag militias after they were overpowered during the midnight ambush at Hareer Hoosle near the Kenyan Somalia border.

Mandera East Deputy County Commissoner Lawrence Omondi said the unknown number of militiamen outgunned the reservists who desperately attempted to keep the intruders at bay in vain.

He told KNA on phone that militant who appeared to be on looting mission at a local goods store took away with them the guns and some foodstuffs and spotlights before crossing into Somalia.

Omondi said the militants escaped with the two rifles after killing three head of cattle, a donkey and two goats.

The incident comes barely a month after the another raid by the militants in Mandera town in which two Cuban doctors were abducted at gun point within the central business district as their whereabouts remains shrouded in mystery to date.

A delegation of Elders from the Kenya who crossed over to Somalia to negotiate with their counterparts over the release of the kidnapped doctors were however turned away throwing their entire initiative into disarray.
