American Ramp;B and hip hop recording artiste, songwriter, businessman and record producer Akon was among the international delegates and entrepreneurs at the just-concluded Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Nairobi.
The celebrity businessman, who is a native of Senegal, made his presentation on Saturday morning at the KICC, and later dined with the delegates at an exclusive dinner. The summit, co-hosted by President Uhuru Kenyatta and US President Barack Obama, brought together entrepreneurs from 120 countries.
The Mama Africa hit singer owns Konvict Muzik and Kon Live Distribution — two of the most successful record labels in the US. He was ranked 80th (Power Rank) in Forbes Celebrity 100 in 2010 and fifth in 40 Most Powerful Celebrities in Africa in 2011. Billboard ranked Akon sixth on the list of Top Digital Songs Artistes of the decade.
In recent times, he has made several visits to Kenya and held talks with President Uhuru in his quest to light up the country as part of his Akon Lighting Africa project. He aims to provide electricity in 15 African countries.
