Ahadi Kenya Trust has rolled out a new initiative targetting young boys and girls.
According to the trust’s anti-jigger ambassador and former Miss Kenya beauty queen Cecilia Mwangi, the initiative called Dignity Pack for Girls amp; Boys will cover all counties.
“This project came up after we identified the needs of schoolgoing girls. We noticed that girl’s performance has drastically dropped as girls miss school at least three to five days a month due to menses. We will be offering a dignity pack to all girls who have reached puberty and consists of six months sanitary towels, three underwears and soap. Our staff will also train them,” she said.
“Ahadi Kenya Trust has also come up with a dignity pack for boys. We have noted that boys have not been given due consideration as girls. We want the boys to feel appreciated as well. We are giving them a dignity pack comprising three underwears and a soap. We have noted that many boys living in rural areas cannot afford to buy underwear as it’s considered a luxury.”
