About 200 Schools Benefit From Desks, Lockers

Some 90 primary and 99 secondary schools in Narok County have benefited from 6, 300 desks and 4950 lockers respectively.
Narok County Commissioner (CC) Evans Achoki speaking during the Narok North Sub County desk launch at Ilmashariani Primary School, said the desks cost Sh30 million and have been distributed evenly to the schools.
“Each primary school benefited from 70 desks while each secondary schools got 50 lockers. We believe this is going to help in keeping the social distance in a bid to curb the spread of Coronavirus when schools fully open,” he said.
He called on well-wishers and organizations to help in buying more furniture for the schools as the government prepare to build more classrooms, workshops and dormitories.
“President Uhuru Kenyatta announced during the State of the Nation address that the government plans to build more structures and put more infrastructure as we await the full reopening in January 2021,” he said.
Achoki said all the desks were made locally by 48 workshops who had been contracted by the government after a successful bidding.
At the same time, the County Commissioner advised the school fraternity to adhere strictly to the Covid-19 measures set by the department of health in a bid to contain the disease.
“I thank God that there has been no case of Covid-19 reported in schools across Narok county. But we should take precautions like washing hands regularly, wearing masks and keeping social distance to prevent a possible spread of the disease,” he reiterated.
Ilmasharian Primary School head teacher Ms. Jane Sankok lauded the government for giving the desks saying they were firm and comfortable for the young learners.
Narok North Deputy County Commissioner Mutuku Mwenga and Narok Quality Assurance School Assessment Officer Robert Moseti accompanied the CC.
