A 30 year old man, Francis Kimathi was attacked and slashed to death on his neck with a panga on Sunday near River view bar at Kiengu location in Igembe central Meru County.
The assailant, Julius Kirimi aged 40 years while armed with a panga attacked the deceased killing him instantly on the spot.
Irate members of the public on seeing this bayed for the blood of the assailant after the fatal incident, gave chase him and made him pay the ultimate price of his cruel act. The mob managed to arrest, beat and lynched him.
Speaking to KNA on Wednesday the area officer in charge of Maua Police Station, David K. Terer said the scene was visited by police officers and found the body of the victim with a deep cut on his neck. The charred remains of the assailant were found burnt with a deep cut on the head.
The two bodies were taken to Nyambene Sub County Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem. The murder weapon has not yet been recovered and the motive of the murder is yet to be established, said the OCS.
Terer added that investigation is continuing to establish the motive and cause of the nasty incident.
