600 names missing in voters’ roll

Six hundred registered voters in Malindi Constituency, Kilifi County will not be eligible to vote in August 8 general elections because they have not been captured in the Independence Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) register.

Speaking to Kenya News Agency (KNA) Thursday IEBC coordinator in Malindi Constituency Mr. Masha Sudi said an internal quality assurance exercise was conducted and noted that about 600 people who had registered as voters are not captured in their register because of system malfunction.

As the voter verification exercise comes to an end Friday, we have noted that some registered voters are not in the system because of one reason or the other and unfortunately therefore they might not be eligible to vote unless they verify with us today and tomorrow, said Mr. Masha.

He also said the names of those affected by the malfunction have been submitted to local chiefs and village elders who could reach them through door to door exercise to re-register them before the voter verification deadline Friday.

I urge those who have not yet verified their particulars with us to do so because we don’t want to lock out anybody from voting. said Masha
