Residents of Oloyiankalani village in Kajiado County were left in shock after a 35 year old man drowned in Olkejuado seasonal river on Monday evening.
The deceased who was identified as George Wamalwa allegedly packed his motorbike beside the river to test the depth of the water when he drowned.
Efforts by the villagers to retrieve the body Tuesday turned fruitless due to lack of supportive equipments.
Speaking to Kenya News Agency (KNA) at the Olkejuado River, Oloyiankalani Chief Mr. Harizon Ole Mpayo said residents of his Location have a perpetual struggle with transport whenever it rains heavily as the bridge is not accessible.
He said the bridge is too small and has been submerged by the raging waters. “We are calling on Kajiado County Government to set aside funds to rehabilitate Olkejuado Bridge which connects Oloyiankalani location,” said Mpayo.
Mpayo said the operation to retrieve the body will resume Wednesday as they have sought assistance from the police and Kenya Red Cross.
