We are losing war on drugs due to lack of support, says Nacada

Coast counties have been accused of not supporting initiatives to fight drugs in the region.

National Authority for Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada) has said more youth are getting hooked to drugs due to lack of support from county governments.

Nacada director Sheikh Juma Ngao said there was need for more rehabilitation centres to reduce the effects of drugs.

“At least five rehabilitation centres are needed in Coast, which is hardest-hit by drugs,” said Sheikh Ngao by telephone Sunday.

The Kenya National Muslims Advisory Council chairman said Nacada was currently building 10 centres nationally, with three in Kwale and Kilifi.

He asked the national and county governments to set aside more funds to fight the menace.
