Tigania residents parade man accused of impregnating 13-year-old daughter

A 32-year-old man was rescued Tuesday from a mob that threatened to lynch him, claiming he had impregnated his daughter.

Residents of Kimachia Village in Tigania West, Meru County, accused the man of sleeping with his 13-year-old daughter for the past five months.

The suspect was paraded around the village and beaten up before he was rescued by local chief Daniel Kaberia and police officers.

He was taken around the village dressed in traditional regalia, known as “Nchandi”, which in the Meru tradition signified that he was an outcast.

“We came to know of the incident a few days ago and we demand that he be arrested,” said Mr Timothy Mugambi, a resident.

The suspect, however, denied any wrongdoing, sentiments that were supported by his daughter.

Mr Kaberia said investigations had been launched and called on the residents to remain calm.

“We have to find out the truth behind the matter and if found culpable, he will face the full force of the law,” the administrator said.

He further cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands, saying they should instead hand over suspects to the police.
