The county government had said earlier that it had set aside a 40-acre parcel of land in Ruai, where City Hall intends to build a rehabilitation centre, school and vocational training institute for the street families.

Dr Kidero said an inter-ministerial committee had been set up to work on the plan.

But the governor has not said when the rehabilitation centre will be built.

One of the street families’ hideouts is on the banks of Nairobi River in Grogan area, near the Globe Roundabout.

Yesterday, a number of street boys and girls could be seen loitering in the area. Unlike in the past, they were spending most of their time in the dens, fearing arrest.
