Tax on boda bodas will hurt business

The Excise Duty Bill, 2015 proposes an increase in excise tax on motorbikes of up to Sh10,000 per unit.

Most youths take up loans to buy motorbikes for the boda boda business and this creates employment opportunities in Kenya.

Raising excise duty on motorbikes will reduce the rate at which young entrepreneurs are investing in this sector.

The National Assembly should rethink the proposed law.

Good National Assemblies enact bills that foster development for the common citizen and young entrepreneurs but not ones that kill the investment spirit.
