After an electrifying showcase performance at the epicentre of the world music industry, World Music Expo (Womex) in Budapest, Hungary, Sarabi are headed back to Nairobi with a promising outcome from their exposure to the industry.
During the four day event, the eight member band of Christabel “Bella” Were, Antony Kimangu, Nelson Mandela, Peter Mbau, John Nyamai and Adama Dushman among others, got a chance to brush shoulders with agents, bookers, media, producers and music
festivals from around the world, who kept the Kenyan band occupied for two days, with further tours scheduled for Europe, North America and Canada come next year.
Sarabi becomes the third Kenyan band in history and the first in 6 years to have made it into the official Womex selection list, since Suzanna Owiyo in 2009.
East Africa being generally underexposed at the annual music industry trade fair and showcase event, Sarabi left a strong Kenyan fingerprint behind and can now look forward to a busy 2016.
This comes a year after the band had an another energised performance before 40,000 fans at the Africa Oyé festival in the UK.
