ODM loses ‘vital files’ in raid of party headquarters

Armed men raided ODM party Nairobi headquarters on Sunday night and stole computers said to contain vital information.

The gangsters stole 10 computers and two laptops in an attack police suspect could have been organised by one of the guards who escaped from the scene.

Kilimani OCPD Peter Kattam on Monday said unknown men cut the window grills after trying to break the main door in vain.

While inside, they broke locks and ransacked offices on the ground and first floors, leaving items scattered.

One of the guards, Patrick Opola Ausi, said the attackers stormed in at around 11pm and left a few minutes past 3am. The two guards said they were ambushed by the men who were already inside the compound.

“We heard the dog barking and decided to check and that is when we were confronted by the armed men,” Mr Ausi said.

The missing guard, who was also the dog-handler, has been identified as Kenedy Osiemo. He had not been traced by Monday afternoon.

Mr Osiemo had been deployed two days before the incident. Mr Kattam said a team of police officers and Cord leader Raila Odinga visited the scene. He said Scenes of Crime personnel have collected vital exhibits and that the police are studying the CCTV footage.
