Police in Nakuru this evening shot dead two men and recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 27 rounds of ammunitions in a foiled robbery attempt.

The incident happened at Soilo Junction on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

The two robbers, who were on a motorcycle, had intercepted a businessman who was heading to Nakuru from Salgaa to deposit money in a bank.

County Police Commander Hassan Barua, confirming the incident, said police on patrol detected the crime and moved in swiftly.

“Police on patrol on the busy highway noticed a confrontation where they moved swiftly and engaged in a fierce shootout where two were killed and another fled on foot from the scene,” he said.

According to Mr Barua, the area is a ‘blackspot’ for robberies.

He said such incidences are expected to be on the rise during the festive season and urged residents to be on the lookout and hire security whenever they are transporting money.
