Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi Sunday starts a four-day state visit to Angola, officials confirmed.
President Nyusi will attend Angola’s 40th independence anniversary on November 11.
The visit is President Nyusi’s first to Luanda and follows an invite by his Angolan counterpart Jose Eduardo dos Santos.
Angola boasts a wide experience in the extractive industry, mainly oil, that Mozambique was keen to gain from, the Maputo-based O Pais newspaper reported.
A special session
Apart from energy and natural resources, the Angolan and Mozambican presidents may re-launch cooperation in other sectors in which both have a potential.
The two former Portuguese colonies already have strong ties in education, health, defence and diplomacy.
President Nyusi is expected to be accompanied by a business delegation.
According to the itinerary, President Nyusi was expected to meet the Mozambican community living in Angola at the Epic Sana Hotel in Luanda Sunday.
The Mozambican leader will on Monday, address a special session in the Angolan parliament.
