Madagascar PM taken to France for treatment

Madagascar’s Premier Jean Ravelonarivo is being treated in a Paris hospital after suffering a mild heart attack.

The news, widely aired by local media, was received with shock. His wife and doctor accompanied him to France.

“The Prime Minister felt exhausted after a very busy week. However, he could move and even called a press conference at the airport before leaving,” an aide of Gen Ravelonarivo told media.

Short message from his Press Service corroborated the information.

The fact that the French capital was recommended for treatment worried some citizens as the emergency coincided with the bloody attacks in Paris.

“He has never had a heart attack before,” the aide went on.

Top Malagasy officials and the rich are used to travelling to France or La Reunion for treatment.

The general’s health was said to be stable when he received delegates from Brussels in his office on Friday last week.

Gen Ravelonarivo, a naval officer, was appointed PM in January.
