Kenya’s top hotels, tented camps shine in global competition


Hotels and tented camps across the country have won big time in the 2015 World Luxury Hotel Awards (WLHA).

Winners were presented with the prestigious awards by WLHA on October 24 during a ceremony held at Harbour Grand Hong Kong Hotel in Hong Kong.


Sarova Mara Game Camp in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve was awarded as the World’s Best Luxury Tented Safari Camp accolade .

For continental winners, Sarova Hotels was voted Africa’s Best Luxury Hotel Brand while Sun Africa Hotels was the continent’s best hotel management company.

Keekorok Lodge, also from the Mara, won the continent’s Best Luxury Wildlife Resort award while Kiboko Luxury Camp, Naivasha, took the continent’s Luxury Eco-Safari Resort award.

The Sarova Stanley bagged the continent’s best Luxury Historical Hotel award while Sun Africa Beach Resort, Mombasa, was voted Africa’s Best Luxury New Hotel.

The dusitD2 Nairobi won the continent’s Luxury Boutique Hotel award.

For Country winners, dusitD2 Nairobi was voted Kenya’s best luxury business hotel while Sovereign Suites, Nairobi, won the Best Luxury Suite Hotel award.

St Thomas Mawe Boutique Hotel was voted Kenya’s Best luxury romantic hotel while the Panari Hotel won the country’s best luxury hotel award.

Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort, Mombasa, took home Kenya’s best luxury beach resort award while House of Waine was voted Kenya’s Best Luxury Boutique Hotel.

Exploreans Mara Rianta Camp won the country’s Best Luxury Safari Retreat Award.

The World Luxury Hotel Awards annual gala ceremony can be described as the Oscars of the hospitality sector.


The WLHA is a recognised global organisation that recognises luxury hotels for their world-class facilities and service excellence.

Awards are presented to luxury hotels in 55 different categories from around the world at the annual ceremony.

The prestigious awards are seen as the pinnacle of recognition for luxury hotels worldwide.

Nominees are vetted and evaluated by a select global panel of expert consultants from 144 countries.

Guests, visitors, clients, travel agents and industry experts then cast their votes on-line.

Yesterday, Sarova Hotels managing director Jaideep Vohra was delighted after his Hotel Group bagged four awards.

He said the awards demonstrated the chain’s reputation as the leading luxury hotel brand in Africa.

“We have been investing towards improving the customer experience in all our properties over the years,” Mr Vohra said.

At Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort in Mombasa, the chain recently completed a Sh100 million renovation project.
