A Kenya Defence Forces soldier has died as six others sustained injuries from an explosion in Garissa on Monday.
The incident, which took place at the border town of Hulugho Sub-County in Garissa Monday, is suspected to have been masterminded by an Al-shabaab militant who planted an improvised explosive device (IED).
Hulugho Sub-County Commissioner Dancan Okwach said the officers were in a convoy before the incident occurred about six kilometers from Hulugho town, killing one on the spot and wounding six others.
CONVOY WAS HEADED TO BULA GOLOL
The administrator said the KDF officers were heading to Bula Golol after gunshots were heard from the area on Sunday night.
Mr Okwach said the injured officers were taken back to the Hulugho camp waiting to be flown to Nairobi later Monday afternoon for specialised treatment.
In June this year, suspected members of Al-Shabaab attacked Bula Golol town before ordering a former councillor to show them where non-locals were.
On April 2, suspected Al-Shabaab militants attacked Garissa University College, killing 147 people among them students.
