Gor Mahia striker Michael Olunga is eager to guide the club to clinch the media Shield title and complete a treble this season.
Gor successfully defended the Kenyan Premier League title without losing a single match with Olunga bagging 19 goals in the campaign and also reclaimed the KPL Top 8 title after beating Sony Sugar 2-1 in last weekend’s final played in Kisumu.
K’Ogalo will now take on National Super League (NSL) side Administration Police on November 20 in the last eight of the Shield tournament as they seek to win all the domestic titles.
“It has been a good season to me. We won the league unbeaten, had a fine run at the Cecafa Kagame Cup and have already bagged the Top 8 title and looking forward to wrap it up with the media Shield,” the 21-year-old said after he was voted as the KPL Fans’ Player of the Month for October.
Olunga came out on top in the poll conducted by Soka ahead of Nairobi City Stars’ Jimmy Bageya, Bandari’s David King’atua, Mathare’s Noah Abich and Ulinzi Stars’ John Makwatta to bag the award.
For his superb displays in October, the former Tusker and Thika United man won Sh10,000 and a trophy.
Olunga, who is expected to lead Kenya’s attack in Friday’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde at the Nyayo National Stadium, is hoping to continue his fine form in the coming seasons.
“I have made a massive strides this year. Apart from scoring goals locally, I have played at a bigger stage which has boosted my confidence and taken my career to another level. I just hope that this continues even in the upcoming season,” he added.
Olunga becomes the sixth player to win the award. The previous winners are Ali Abondo, Jacob Keli, Bernard Mang’oli, Paul Kiongera and Meddie Kagere.
