E-commerce firm Chinabuy enters Kenyan market

Chinabuy, an e-commerce company, has entered the local market with a promise to link local buyers to Chinese manufacturers and Chinese major online sites.

The online shopping mall has an array of items for purchase, including electronics, clothing and toys.

The platform will enable online shoppers to purchase multiple items from various factories with ease. Buyers will be expected to pay for the shipping fee and the related taxes as well.

“China is the biggest manufacturer in the world today and using cross border e-commerce, clients from all over the world can buy whatever they want directly from factories in China without middle men and a long, costly supply chain at extremely affordable prices. We are honoured that our first branch in Africa is in Kenya,” said founder and CEO of Chinabuy Group, Joe Zhang.

To capture the attention of the local market, the site has a 365-day return policy besides adopting popular methods of payment including mobile money.

The firm will operate locally as chinabuy.co.ke site and offer customer care support in both English and Kiswahili.

“Africa and China have been trading with each other for centuries but the level and intensity of their trade relationship has increased dramatically since online e-commerce has become the norm,” said Mr Zhang.

“Our online platform works to give our customers, 247 easy access to a vast array of products at very competitive prices. We offer flexible payment platforms like mobile money, PayPal, credit cards and other preferred payment for the convenience of our customers, with a safe and secure process,” he said.

Chinabuy plans to introduce an all-day call centre in local languages, different delivery methods for faster delivery and a return policy of unused products in a move aimed at making it the go-to site for online shoppers.
