Big supermakets driving small shops to oblivion

Pope Francis has encouraged our leaders to mind the poor. One way of doing this is by limiting the proliferation of large supermarket chains in every corner of this nation.

There should be a by-law that protects small businessmen and women. The small dukawallas have vanished, their market gobbled up by these chains.

Let nobody lie to you that they distribute wealth by creating employment. They pay their employees peanuts while they stash all the profits in their fat bank accounts.

And let nobody argue that it’s convenient for shoppers. Wait until you need to buy some salt and you have to walk or drive to the nearest supermarket and then queue to pay! Minding the poor is giving them a fair chance in life.
