Three lucky winners were on Wednesday presented with a total of Sh8.5million by sports betting firm Betway Group in Nairobi.
The three – Phantom Omosa, Austine Nanga and Emily Khisa – shared the jackpot, each walking home Sh2.8 million richer.
Nanga, a 24-year-old tourism student at Amboseli Institute of Hospitality and Technology in Thika, was overjoyed after being presented with Sh2.8 million dummy cheque yesterday . “It feels great to win. It’s the best day of my life. I made three bets and spent Sh150 which paid off,” he told Daily Nation Sport. He plans to take time off from studies and use the money to boost his father’s business.
Kitale-based Omosa, who is an ardent fan of English Premiership giants Arsenal, said the money will go along way in changing his life. “I am happy to have won this money. Last Saturday, I was at a bar when I decided to try my luck and bet. Little did I know that Sh50 I spent in betting would bear fruit,” a jubilant Omosa said. He plans to use part of the money to finish construction works on her mother’s new house.
Khisa, a police officer is based in Kericho and who supports Kenyan Premier League side AFC Leopards and English Premiership giants Manchester United placed four bets and spent only Sh200, a gamble that paid off.
“I am pleased to have won. My priority is to construct a house. It is what I have always wanted to do for some time now,” Khisa said. Khisa said she would continue betting. Betway are the official sponsors of English Premier League side West Ham United. The company’s head of new markets, Antony Prissman, urged more fans to place bets, saying the company is committed to supporting the development of sports in Kenya.
