Three gangsters shot dead in Ruiru

Three suspected gangsters were shot dead by police officers in Ruiru while a fourth one escaped with gun shots wounds following a fierce shootout on Thursday evening.

According to area OCPD, Issac Thuranira, police had been tipped that the dangerous criminals were on their way to Thika from Nairobi aboard a private vehicle a Honda airwave KBZ 075V.

Police laid a trap along the Thika Super-highway and the thugs on reaching Kihunguro trading centre, noticed that police were trailing them and diverted to an earth road in an attempt to dodge the security officers.

Thuranira said that when the armed gangsters were challenged to stop by police, they drew their pistol and started shooting at the police officers.

In the ensuing shootout, 3 gangsters were felled while the forth one escaped into the nearby Kihunguro slums

Police recovered a cescar pistol, a magazine loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition, a bullet proof vest, car ignition keys and an empty 9 millimeters cartridge.

Thuranira said it is believed that the four were on their way to commit a crime when the police intercepted them.

The bodies have since been removed to the city mortuary, with police following lead on the forth one who escaped with injuries.
