NAIROBI, Kenyan President Uhuru kenyatta has commended Somalai for successfully holding a peaceful presidential election, saying it is proof that the Horn of Africa nation is heading in the right direction.
The election held recently gave renewed hope to the Somali people and international community that Somalia is on the road to full recovery, President Kenyatta said when he received a special envoy of the Somalia president here Thursday.
“The way the election was conducted and the subsequent peaceful transfer of power has made us very proud,” he added at his State House Nairobi office where Abdisalam Omer, the new Foreign Minister of Somalia, delivered a message from Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed to the Kenyan leader.
President Kenyatta said the existing co-operation between Kenya and northeastern neighbour Somali in a wide range of areas, including peace and security, would strengthern the bonds of friendship between the two countries.
TAbdisalam Omer voiced appreciation for the efforts Kenya has continued to offer towards the stabilisation of Somalia.
Meanwhile, Slovak President Andrej Kiska, who has been in the country since Monday, wrapped up his State visit Thursday and was seen off at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by President Kenyatta.
