Police officer arrested for raping varsity student

A 28 year old police officer in Rongo is in police custody for reportedly raping a University student.

According to the area OCPD Jonathan Kisaka, the security officer was on duty with other three officers when the victim (name withheld) from Jaramogi Oginga University, Siaya student arrived at 10.00 pm in Rongo town.

The student appeared stranded because she was seeking help to reach her rural home, Kisaka said.

He added the three officers tricked the woman, 21, into the victims’ house where she was engaged in forced sex.

She managed to escape to her rural home the following morning in North Kamagombo where she reported the incident to the parents who immediately took her to the nearest Kamagombo Police to record a statement.

When the suspected police culprit was arrested and brought before her she quickly identified him, Kisaka told the press at his office in Rongo town on Thursday.

The OCPD said the police officer will appear in Migori court to answer rape charges since a case had already been established.

He urged members of the public to be patient as justice is being sought for the affected student.

There are No sacred cows here in Rongo that is why police officers who break the law including the OCPD are investigated to establish the truth and action taken, Kisaka said.

He urged members of the public especially women to open up and report any kind of sexual abuse case for action.
