Police investigates traders’ death

Police in Gilgil are investigating the murder of a local trader whose body was found dumped in a pit latrine.

The body was discovered by residents of Mbegi village in Gilgil days after the trader reportedly went missing under mysterious circumstances.

Police in the area have since arrested the deceased’s girlfriend who is helping with investigations after neighbors claimed that the victim was last seen with her in his house where they have been living together.

According to preliminary investigations, the victim may have been killed and his body dragged for over a kilometer from a house he lived with the suspect before being dumped into the 40 feet latrine that was under construction.

It was said that blood spots and a foul smell attracted members of the public to the scene after a two day search for the victim said to be in his early 30s.

An eye witness and a neighbor to the deceased Moses Gitonga told the press that it was not clear what transpired but it seemed the man was stabbed to death.

Gitonga who is the Nakuru County chairman of democracy and Good governance, termed the murder shocking as the couple had been living together happily.

He added that this was the third man to be killed in the area in a span of months adding that the cases were worrying and called on police to carry out thorough investigations to unearth those behind the heinous crime.
