Police in Nyakach in hunt for man who killed over love SMS

Security agents in Nyakach sub-county have launched a manhunt for a suspect who allegedly killed a neighbor on suspicion of having an illicit affair with his wife.

The killer, Frederick Okoth, is said to have stormed the deceased’s home at Olando in Central Nyakach ward and reportedly attacked the victim with a knife and a machete in the Wednesday night incident.

Area assistant chief, Mr. George Ochieng confirmed he was among those who responded to the distress call and disclosed that the suspect bolted out of the deceased homestead but could not be reached on his phone shortly following the incident.

The administrator said the suspect claimed, in a phone conversation, that he became furious after stumbling on romantic message allegedly sent by the deceased, Steve Mboya Omollo, in his wife’s phone.

The suspect who had reportedly traveled home from his work place in Nairobi further alleged that one of the messages alluded to a romantic escapade between the deceased and his wife that was purportedly scheduled at10 pm on the fateful night.

Okoth further claimed that it was the SMS message that pushed him to storm the compound of the neighbor now turned foe with the intent to establish the truth but the encounter regrettably turned tragic.

We managed to locate the suspect on phone in an attempt to establish what could have transpired but he maintained that he only intended to scare the deceased and warn him to stay away from his wife, said the Chief

Okoth, 38, met his untimely death while serving as the Orange Democratic Movement party organizing secretary for Nyakach sub-county.

The body of the deceased was removed by the police to Pap Onditii hospital even as the administrator appealed to members of the public to come forth with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect who is still at large.
