Eleven thousand, two hundred and two (11, 202) orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in Kilifi County benefited from cash transfer amounting to 268, 848,000 in 2016/2017 financial year.
County coordinator of children affairs George Migosi said the sh.4, 000 received after every two months were channeled either directly to the beneficiaries or through care givers.
He said Magarini Sub County with the highest number of 2930 OVC received sh. 70,320, 000 closely followed by Ganze Sub County sh.46, 320, 000 for the 1930 OVCs while Kilifi north Sub County with 1675 OVCs received sh.40, 200, 000.
Other beneficiaries are Kaloleni Sub County which received sh. 39, 432, 000 for 1643 0VCs,Malindi sh.26, 160, 000 for the 1090 OVCs, Rabai sh.23, 832, 000 for the 993 OVCs and Kilifi south with sh22, 584, 000 for the 941 OVCs.
Speaking at the national government service delivery coordination committee meeting at the NEMA offices in Kilifi at the weekend, Migosi said other funds received through his office in the financial year were sh. 8, 887, 074 ,presidential secondary school scholarship which benefited a total of 538 children in the area.
He said the beneficiaries included 303 boys and 235 girls from the seven Sub Counties in the region.
