One injured as Kenyan and Ethiopia herders clash

One person was on monday injured following a gun battle between Turkana and Ethiopia herders that lasted for over four hours in Kibish area of Turkana County.

The Kibish Deputy County Commissioner, Erick Wanyonyi, confirmed the incident that started at midday along the Kenya-Ethiopia border.

Wanyonyi said the two communities could have clashed over grazing pastures.

Herders from Nyangatom community in Ethiopia were spotted along the Kenyan border with their livestock, said the Commissioner.

He said the inter border conflicts between the communities living in that region has been worsened by the construction of a sugar factory and other development projects on the Ethiopian side which he added had put more pressure on the grazing land.

Kenyan Security officers, including national police reservists, managed to repulse the Ethiopian herders but tension is still high in the area according to the Deputy County Commissioner.
