Nine people among them eight students killed

Nine people including five students at lokichoggio secondary school were Saturday morning killed by attackers believed to be from Toposa of the neighbouring south Sudan.

Turkana west sub county OCPD David Nyabuto confirmed the killings which occurred at 2am.

Nyabuto added that 16 other students sustained injuries in the attack that also left the school watchman dead.

According to the OCPD the killings were caused by a student identified as Abraham Locher from south Sudan who was suspended from the school over in disciple but mobilised other attackers.

County Health Executive Committee member Ms Jane Ajele said she had dispatched a team of doctors to assist the victims.

It is a traumatising situation but we are doing everything we can to support the affected families, she said.

She added that students who were injured have been taken to Lodwar town hospital by ambulances.

Deputy Governor Peter Lotethiro also led senior government officers to visit the school.

A resident, Joseph Elar said the attack occurred near the GSU camp but the response was very slow.
