Machakos police have confirmed that they are holding a man after he was implicated in an attempt to corruptly acquire form 34As of the just-concluded elections from party agents.
The arrest of Onesmus Makau Kaloki followed a complaint by two agents of Machakos Governor’s Maendeleo Chap Chap party that he wanted to bribe them so they would give him the crucial post-election forms.
Speaking to the media, Machakos CID boss John Kirui said Mr. Kaloki was arrested on Monday at a hotel in Mlolongo town where he had gone to meet the agents and get the forms. Unknown to him the two ladies had alerted the police who accompanied them to the hotel. The undercover police nabbed Kaloki immediately he started the meeting with the two party supporters.
I want to confirm to you that we have a suspect caled Onesmus Makau Kaloki who was arrested Monday in Mlolongo by CID officers after a complaint was launched by some agents of Maendeleo Chap Chap. We are still holding him, conducting investigations, Mr. Kirui told the media.
He added, Once investigations are over you will be told whether he will be taken to court or not.
According to the two agents, Everlyn Mwetha and Winnie Ndunge who represented the party in the Mlolongo area during the elections, Kaloki and another unknown person both of whom claimed to be officers of IEBC had been pestering them to provide the forms.
The agents told the media that the two men claimed they had misplaced their forms and wanted to be assisted. We went and reported to the police, then duped him into coming to a Mlolongo hotel where he was arrested, one the ladies told the media in Mlolongo.
Kaloki’s arrest comes at a time when there is simmering disquiet between supporters of the Wiper Party gubernatorial candidate Wavinya Ndeti and those of the declared winner of the seat, Maendeleo Chap Chap’s Dr. Alfred Mutua. Wavinya has vowed to go court to challenge Dr. Mutua’s victory. It is however not clear whether Kaloki’s alleged requests and his consequent arrest are related to this reality.
