Family of the slain Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ICT Manager Chris Msando has been asked to enlist the support of United States of America’s Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) to unearth the killing.
Leaders from Nyanza led by Kisumu Senator Prof. Anyang Nyongo, Nominated MP Dr. Oburu Odinga, Homabay Senator Moses Kajwang and Homabay Women Representative Gladys Wanga said the government alone could not be trusted to investigate the murder.
Dr. Odinga said it was clear that the motive behind the killing was to get information from the deceased in regard to IEBC’s ICT systems.
He added that the United Kingdom and United States of America offer to assist in the investigation was critical to unravel the mystery behind the killing.
Msando, he said, stood for what was right by ensuring that the IEBC system was water tight to pave way for free and fair elections.
Msando died on the line of duty and it is so sad to lose such a knowledgeable Kenyan just because some people want to instill fear and prevent Kenyans from actively participating in the general elections, he said.
The country, he said, was experiencing well choreographed criminal activities aimed at instilling fear and intimidating Kenyans so as to influence the outcome of the August 8 general elections.
Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o said President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto’s silence over the matter was suspect.
He said it was unfortunate for the two leaders to remain silent at a time all Kenyans were struggling to find answers to the mysterious murder.
Nyando MP Fred Outa said the killing was an act of provocation to destabilise peace in the Nyanza region ahead of the general election.
This is outright provocation so that we fight and deviate attention from next week’s general elections, he said.
He asked area residents to remain calm calling for speedy investigations to bring perpetrators of the heinous act to book.
The MP further asked Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinet to ensure that security is enhanced ahead of the elections.
Homabay Senator Moses Kajwang asked police to arrest and interrogate Gatundu Member of Parliament Moses Kuria in relation to the murder.
Kajwang said the remarks the MP made after the disappearance of Msando must be investigated further.
The president’s silence over the matter, he said, was callous adding that it signified that there is some information he knows about the murder.
Homabay Women Representative Gladys Wanga also called for the questioning of Moses Kuria in relation to the murder.
Why is he still walking free after making such sensitive remarks regarding the deceased? she said.
