Three hundred and sixty orphans residing at a children’s home in Kitengela in Kajiado County are among people who will benefit from proceeds of an ultra-modern shopping mall in Kiambu town.
The Sh 800 million mall which will soon open its doors to the public is situated on a 10 acre parcel of land in the heart of Kiambu town along Biashara Street.
Speaking to KNA Saturday at Kiambu mall, Peter Burugu the chairman of the facility said the project was geared to serve interests of the community as opposed to only generating income.
Burugu revealed that he intended to actualize his promise to assist his co-investor Enos Ngojo whom they partnered with to open the school which will empower poor children in society.
He revealed that he will be able to sponsor more orphans within Kiambu County who are yet to go through school after losing both parents and had been left in the hands of grandparents.
He pointed out that the project targets poor orphans to enable them become useful citizens in future and participate in nation building.
The chairman said the mall had offered employment to 200 residents since its construction started and would create more jobs when complete.
Burugu explained that the facility will have 62 shops which will offer many business opportunities and employment to many people who will be able to raise their living standards.
Joseph Kamau a gatekeeper in the mall said since the project started in 2015 he has been able to meet family needs.
Many people around here have benefited from the project. We hope that more will get employed when everything will be on its place come 31st December this year when the mall is expected to be officially opened, Kamau added.
