The Kenya Pharmaceutical Association has raised the red flag over a mushrooming of illegal pharmacies which are operated by unqualified personnel and which pose a danger to Kenyans.
Members of the public were urged to be cautious when purchasing drugs at chemists by ensuring that the facilities are duly registered, said the association’s Organizing Secretary, Amos Kendagor, Sunday.
Speaking during the association’s 13th annual scientific conference in Kericho, about 260 kilometres west of here, he added that these outlets might be selling counterfeit drugs and administering wrong doses to unsuspecting members of the public.
He called on Kenyans to always verify the genuine outlets by using a toll free SMS code generated by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board which is displayed in front of the pharmacies.
