Police in Vihiga County have launched investigations into the death of a 65 year old man who was found murdered at Bo Yusuf Primary School in Sabatia Sub County on Monday.
Vihiga County Police Commander, Sarah Duncan confirmed the incident to Kenya News Agency (KNA) on Tuesday.
Ms Duncan said the deceased was found by a group of pupils who had arrived at school at about 6.00am.
Upon arrival, the pupils suddenly bumped into a dead body on the compound, said Ms. Duncan.
The shocked learners were unable to immediately identify the body before they reported to their teachers.
The deceased was identified as Mr. Garrison Mudede who was the father to the institution’s substantive watchman, Mr. Charles Chegeso, 35 years.
It is alleged Chegeso had requested the father to take control of the school on his behalf as he attended to family matters, added the Commander.
Preliminary investigations revealed the deceased was attacked by an unknown gang of robbers that forced entry into the school compound on Monday night.
The body had several serious knife cuts on the head and chest, said Ms Duncan.
She added the robbers gained entry to the school’s administration block through a window before stealing two laptops and two projectors.
The body was removed to the Vihiga County Referral Hospital mortuary.
Mudede’s death brings to three number of school watchmen that have been slain by robbers in Vihiga County in the last two months, while schools with Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) equipment that have been vandalised by thugs stands at six.
