Two people lost their lives on the spot while one is fighting for his life at a hospital in Vihiga Sub County following a grisly accident on Saturday morning.
Vihiga Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Mr. Justin Nyagah confirmed the early morning tragedy which involved a boda boda motorcycle and a car.
The accident, which claimed the lives of the boda boda rider and one of his passengers, occurred at Ehedewe area along the busy Kakamega-Kisumu highway.
The rider was carrying two passengers at the time of the unfortunate incident.The accident happened a few minutes to 8am when the driver of the car lost control before colliding head on with the motorcycle, reported Nyagah, adding the two were speeding from opposite directions.
The other passenger on the motorbike escaped with serious injuries and was rushed to Itando Health Centre in critical condition.
The two bodies were removed to Vihiga County Referral Hospital mortuary.
Following the tragedy, Nyagah cautioned motorists plying roads in the area against flouting traffic rules. I particularly take issue with boda boda riders who are fond of breaking traffic rules at will, he pointed out.
He vowed to lead a traffic crackdown aimed at arresting motorists fond of flouting basic traffic laws such as over speeding, overloading, and driving without requisite documents, among other offenses.
The sub county police boss also promised to convene a meeting with all boda boda cyclists in the area.
