Dagoretti North Youth Empowerment Programme Launched

Dagoretti North Sub County in Nairobi Friday became the 174th constituency in the country to embrace the National Youth Service (NYS) Youth Empowerment Programme.

The launch was done by the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Mrs. Sicily Kariuki, who was accompanied by the Majority Whip in Senate Ms Beatrice Elachi.

Addressing the 500 cohorts and local residents at Kawangware Ward Administration grounds , the CS said that the government was investing heavily on the youth to transform them socially and economically.

Reaffirming the importance of the affirmative action in empowering jobless young people in the country, CS Kariuki urged the youth to exercise utmost discipline to learn life skills which will enable them realise their desires.

The CS cautioned the youths against being used by politicians during this electioneering period as this would derail their dreams for the future.

She enumerated success stories by cohorts from other parts of the country who have gone through the Youth Empowerment programme and had become landlords, entrepreneurs, importers and suppliers of goods.

Refrain from being used by politicians as they take you to be easy targets to cause chaos and mayhem. But my joy now is that you are enlisted in this programme, thus giving you the opportunity to determine your future while at the same time, moulding you to be dependable citizens, the CS said.

Kariuki reassured women and youth that the Jubilee administration was committed to uplifting their welfare saying innovation and diversity was the key to the country’s growth and economic prosperity.

The CS disbursed over S1 million to various women groups in Nairobi County. She urged the groups to work hard and enhance their businesses.

Do not shy off from seeking more funds as there are sufficient Affirmative Funds for women and youth groups in the country, she advised.

On her part, Elachi urged area residents to keep peace during and after the elections and hailed harmonious co-existence of various communities in the area.
