Small traders in Kakamega County are now enjoying a conducive operating environment after the county government constructed modern stalls for them.
Six modern markets have so far been operationalized while a similar number is still under construction per Sub County.
In addition to the market complexes, hundreds of portable metallic kiosks have been availed in a bid to rid the urban centres of unsightly structures.
Governor Wycliffe Oparanya says his administration is focused on creating an enabling environment for small scale traders so as to grow their businesses.
In order to avail financial capital for the residents, the county disbursed Sh. 20 million as trade loans in the last financial year to the youth and women groups as well as persons with disabilities.
The groups received the credit facility ranging from Sh. 5,000 to Sh. 200,000 at five per cent interest rate on the basis of the reducing balance.
Flood lights have also been erected in major trading centres to pave way for 24-hour business activities in these areas.
