County assembly speaker’s seat attracts prominent lawyers

The number of lawyers in Bungoma jostling to take up the County Assembly Speaker’s post which fell vacant after the former assembly was dissolved keeps rising by the day.

Those who have declared interest are prominent lawyer Amos Makokha, LSK Bungoma chapter chairman Andrew Kituyi, Henry Makhakara Douglas Malala, Antonina Muyoka and Emmanuel Situma.

The seat was formerly occupied by Mr. John Makali who unsuccessfully vied for the Kanduyi parliamentary seat.

Makali who vied on an ODM ticket lost to Ford Kenya’s Wafula Wamunyinyi, the county Ford Kenya chairman.

Ford Kenya has 18 elected MCAs while Jubilee has 10 hence the former might back a candidate leaning towards the party.

Antonina Muyoka unsuccessfully vied for the Bungoma county women Rep position. She emerged third after Reginalda Wanyonyi and Catherine Wambilyanga who won the seat.

Kituyi told journalists that he has what it takes to lead the county assembly. I have 15 years experience that I intend to apply to ensure laws beneficial to residents are passed, he said

He added that he will look into the welfare of the MCAs in event that he becomes the speaker besides ensuring that there is equitable distribution of resources in all the 45 wards.

Residents of Bungoma County are hopeful that the incoming Speaker will ensure that passed bills are promptly implemented.
