Council of Governors Chairman Josphat Nanok sworn in

Re-elected Turkana County governor Josphat Nanok was together with his Deputy Peter Lotethiro sworn into office on Saturday in a colourful ceremony.

The ceremony was attended by foreign dignitaries and four other governors at Ekaales centre in Lodwar town.

Delegations of leaders from South Sudan led by Louis Lobong Lojore (Kapoeta State) and others from Uganda and Ethiopia were at hand to congratulate the governor.

Nanok who is the Council of Governors (CoG) chairman has in his first five year reign in the border county engaged in concerted efforts to stem cross border cattle rustling and insecurity.

Governors Patrick Khaemba (Trans Nzoia), Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu), Prof John Lonyangapuo (West Pokot) and Alex Tolgos (Elgeyo Marakwet) graced the occasion to show their solidarity with Nanok who is also the North Rift Economic Bloc (Noreb) vice chairman.

He appealed to elected Members of Parliament and senators to ensure devolved units have enough funds to facilitate development at the grassroots.

Top on his agenda was efforts to address perennial water scarcity, famine and illiteracy, through investment in irrigation, construction of dams and equipping of learning institutions.

Noreb which consists of Turkana, Baringo, West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Trans Nzoia and Samburu counties will ensure enhanced inter-county trade, through exploitation of members’ potential and promotional of tourism, he explained.

Nanok said CoG will start fresh negotiations with nurses to ensure that they resumed duty and save wananchi from further medical care woes.

He promised to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta in case the Supreme Court rules in his favour.

Governor Mandago, the Noreb Chairman, congratulated Nanok for his re-election describing him as a focused leader worthy supporting for the sake of development in the region.
